In the world of comedy no actor has had such a profound influence on the next generations of comedians as that comic genius TONY HANCOCK. His premature death in 1968 at the age of 44 deprived the entertainment world of perhaps the greatest post-war comedian to have emerged from this country. It was in 1954 that his legend was truly born as he was teamed up with talented writers RAY GALTON and ALAN SIMPSON to bring the nation one of the funniest radio series ever made Hancock's Half Hour. He made 80 hours of material originally broadcast by the BBC on radio and television between 1954 and 1961. With his impeccable timing and brilliantly subtle shifts in intonation he could create sound pictures that bore the unmistakable hallmark of a genius. Each episode featured the absurd adventures of the motley residents of 23 Railway Cuttings East Cheam including that most pompous petty and famous of the lot Anthony Aloysius St John Hancock. The radio series ran for six seasons enthralling and delighting the listening public with the surreal fantasy world in which the characters lived. Each week 'the lad himself' TONY HANCOCK roguish landlord SID JAMES goodhearted Aussie BILL KERR KENNETH WILLIAMS and HATTIE JACQUES would enact outrageous scenarios which would leave the listener reeling with laughter. The four programmes featured on Hancock's Half Hour (10) are: Agricultural `Ancock The New Secretary The Insurance Policy and The Election Candidate.Contains 2 CassettesRunning Time: 1 hr 51 mins
